When should I go to an emergency room and when should I go to an urgent care clinic?
Some medical problems require immediate medical attention of a hospital emergency room, however, in many cases an urgent care facility is a quicker and often more cost efficient alternative. The lists below offer some guidance to what sort of treatment each type facilitates. The following problems need the attention of an emergency room doctor:
- Altered mental status
- Chest pain
- Choking
- Electrical shock
- Extreme shortness of breath
- Major trauma
- Poisoning
- Pregnancy related problems
- Seizure
- Unconsciousness

Should I call to make an appointment before coming in?
Walk-ins are always welcome at Brentview Medical Urgent Care. No appointments are taken.
What is the usual wait time at Brentview Medical?
Wait times are generally short. Unlike an ER, where wait times can be long, Brentview Medical Urgent Care will typically see a patient within 15-30 minutes of their check-in.
Is it more expensive to visit an Urgent Care Center rather than an Emergency Room?
Urgent care centers are generally considerably less expensive to visit than ER’s. Sometimes an urgent care visit can be a third as expensive as your hospital’s emergency room.
When should I visit my primary care physician and when should I visit an urgent care center?
Brentview Medical is set up as an urgent care clinic. If you have a primary care physician that you like, Brentview Medical is an excellent option for your medical needs during those times when you cannot get into your primary M.D. in a timely manner, or when the primary care physician’s office is not open, such as after hours, weekends and holidays.
What if I need to see a specialist?
If a Brentview Medical medical provider recommends a specialist consultation, such as an orthopedic surgeon, our staff will assist you in making an appointment with that physician. To give the medical specialist all the information needed to make an informed decision, your urgent care medical provider will provide you with a copy of your tests results, including a CD copy of your x-rays (if applicable).
What information should I bring with me when I come to your urgent care clinic?
All first-time patients need to bring an up-to-date medical insurance card and a government issued photo ID. It’s helpful to your urgent care medical provider if you can bring copies of any pertinent prior lab work or imaging studies. If you take medicines, please also be prepared to discuss the exact names and dosages of the medicines that you are taking.
Do I need to pay with cash?
We work with almost all major PPO insurances and we also accept all major credit cards, cash, and personal checks. You may be responsible for an insurance co-pay, which you can pay with cash, credit card, or personal check.
What types of insurance do you accept?
We accept most PPO insurances and also accept Medicare. Click here to see a list of medical insurances that we accept.
Do you see patients who have HMO insurance?
Brentview Medical is not contracted with any HMO’s. HMO patients can pay with cash, check, or credit card.
What if I do not have medical insurance?
Brentview Medical Urgent Care accepts cash and all major credit cards.
Does Brentview Medical Urgent Care treat children?
Brentview Medical Urgent Care treats pediatric patients on a case by case basis.
After my urgent care visit, can I follow up with Brentview Medical?
Yes. You are welcome to follow up with our medical providers for follow-up care.
Do you have any other urgent care clinics in the greater Los Angeles area?
Currently, Brentview Medical operates two urgent care centers in the L.A. area. Our clinics are located in Brentwood and in West Hollywood.
